Back to the ER

Monday, April 13

Here we go again. Back to the emergency room via an ambulance with our little Tenley girl.  The past few days Tenley has had a fever and hasn't been feeling very well because her 2 year old molars are trying to cut their way in. We took her to 7 Eleven to get a slurpee, thinking the cold might feel really good on her sore mouth. Dave filled up a slurpee cup and before Tenley even had a chance to try it, she went unconscious and had a tonic seizure while Dave was holding her.  We were slightly more calm about this seizure since we had been through it before with Tenley. We laid her on the ground and made sure all her airways were clear and then waited for her to come out of the seizure. It is the most horrible feeling watching your child go unconscious and turn pale blue. I know we were being watched over by our Heavenly Father that day because as I was laying Tenley on the ground, this woman, wearing hospital scrubs came over and started checking for a pulse and was talking really calm about what was happening to our little baby. It just so happened that she was an emergency room nurse who was on her break and she was so kind to help us, and calm us. Tenley snapped out of this seizure a little quicker than the first time, but she was very lethargic for quite awhile after. Someone called 911 on our behalf and when the paramedics arrived, they insisted that they take Tenley to the hospital....which was literally one block away from where we were. So they strapped her in and away we went.

They ran an ECG to make sure there were no heart abnormalities and they also took a few blood samples to test for any other signs of why she may be getting these seizures. Trying to get an IV in her sweet little arm was one of the worst things I've had to watch her go through. They kept missing her vein and it was just horrible to watch Tenley scream. She was looking at me like, "these people are hurting me, why the freak aren't you stopping them mom!?!" All the tests came back normal, so after 4 hours of their supervision they let us go back home.  The doctor on call recommended that we get an EEG (which monitors the brain activity) and get her in to see a pediatric neurologist to see if they can pin point what is causing these seizures.  One thing is certain, this sweet little babe will be getting extra hugs and extra kisses.
