Vatican City

Wednesday, September 16

Today we took a taxi over to Vatican City State and took a guided tour through all of the museums and churches. So much history and so much information got crammed into my tiny brain that I have already forgotten most of it. We had so much fun looking at all the crazy statues and artwork. The Sistine Chapel was among my favorite but sadly no photography was allowed inside.

So much artwork everywhere you look. Every ceiling is covered in some muriel similar to this.

St. Peter's Basilica was also on of my favorites.  The inside felt nothing like how I think a church should feel, but the architecture is amazing. Michelangelo was one of the designers and it really is an incredible structure.

We then rushed back to our hotel to grab our luggage and took a taxi to meet up with our friends so we could get on the cruise ship in Civitavecchia.  Our taxi driver took us to the wrong hotel and he didn't speak any English so we basically had to jump out of the car in the middle of road because he wouldn't let us out of the car and just kept driving us around in circles.  Dave could understand a lot of what the driver was saying because Italian has a lot of similarities to Spanish, so Dave was speaking back to the cab driver in Spanish, he was yelling at us in Italian and I was barking back English. We were not so happy in the moment but it's pretty hilarious to think about now.
